Realtor Red Flags: 7 Signs You May Be Hiring the Wrong Real Estate Agent

Choosing a Realtor can have a major impact on your buying or selling experience, so pay attention to warning signs early. One of the biggest is poor communication. If an agent regularly takes days to respond while trying to earn your business, consider what that could look like once you're dealing with a time-sensitive offer, inspection deadline, appraisal issue, or negotiation.

Another red flag is an agent who always tells you exactly what you want to hear. Sellers should be cautious when an agent suggests a much higher listing price than everyone else without convincing market data to support it. Buyers should question an agent who loves every property and continually encourages them to spend more. Sometimes good real estate advice means saying something a client doesn't necessarily want to hear.

You should also be cautious when an agent can't explain the reasoning behind their recommendations. Why is this the right listing price? Why is this house worth the asking price? Why should you accept or reject this particular term? Real estate involves judgment, and you deserve to understand what's behind the advice you're receiving. An experienced Realtor should be willing to explain the strategy and answer questions.
